When Arthritis Slows You Down
October 11th, 2005You’ve probably found out yourself that when you have arthritis things often don’t go quite as you planned and you end up needing a back-up plan.
This site on pain management tips is my Plan B!
Here’s how it happened.
I’ve been teaching an Arthritis Chronic Pain Management program for several years and find it frustrating when there aren’t enough people registered to run the program. That means either cancelling, usually at short notice, or carrying on for just a few people which doesn’t work very well either.
My frustration reached the critical point last week just as I was once again all set to lead a program. When the deadline arrived the number registered had reached just over the required minimum but, this time, I was the one who had to back out!
I fell and turned my ankle. The result was painful bruising and swelling which meant I wasn’t able to walk very far. To make matters worse. I thought I was safer using a cane, but I couldn’t walk with a cane and at the same time carry the flip chart and other material from the parking lot to the meeting room. My co-leader had had to cancel and it was very short notice to find a substitute. I felt bad, but I decided it was best for me to cancel.
Well, I’ve been thinking for a while that it would be fun to develop a way to talk about arthritis pain management online so people who have a hard time getting out to meetings could still get information just by using their computer at home or wherever they happened to be.
Mind you, I wasn’t thinking I would be the one who needed to stay at home!
This post is the beginning of my experiment and I’m quite excited about it.
I call the site Arthritis Pain Tips because I plan to focus on all kinds of ideas and activities people with arthritis pain have tested and found helpful.
